I source five pound extrusions of USA-made brass in three profiles. Then I force-patinate them with a bit of salt and ammonia for a while, before breaking the top edges with a bit of sandpaper to reveal a nice shiny highlight. I then finish them off by lovingly selecting a scrap of hair-on cowhide, which I then apply to the bottom with some cobbler adhesive so it really sticks.
